2024: October : Books I've Read (Ranked):

Speed round! Shout out to StoryGraph for making my life so easy when it comes to reviewing my monthly data. For October, I stayed focused. I have a reading goal and I need to finish this year strong. 9 books for the month is decent and more than last month (7 books for September).

Only 1 favorite / 5-star read, but whatever, we'll take it.

  • Remember Me Tomorrow by Farah Heron is a YA contemporary dual timelines mystery, yet somehow jammed into one timeline (just trust me). Mysterious and tense yet tender, you will be rooting for the main characters and desperate to find Jay alive. College campus drama, culture/identity, and privilege are all intertwined. I got this as an "Amazon First Read" and wow, it was an amazing choice. I can't recommend this enough, and that's exactly what I want out of a 5-star read!

Loved (Recommend to anyone for any reason)

  • Remember Me Tomorrow- Farah Heron (see above)

Really Liked (Top choice recommendations)

  • Evidence of the Affair- Taylor Jenkins Reid (a novella with an expert ending)

  • The Villa- Rachel Hawkins ("gothic" dual timeline past/present, but CW for pervy relationships between teen girls and men who are old enough to know better)

Pretty Good (Recommend lite)

  • Who is Maud Dixon- Alexandra Andrew (Did you like Yellowface? The Rachel Incident? Verity by Colleen Hoover? If so, this one is for you!)

Okay (Fine- Liked enough)

  • Look Closer- David Ellis (a psychological thriller taking place in Chicago over Halloween weekend... exactly when I read this. What a ride, though a little far-fetched.)

  • Salt to the Sea- Ruta Sepetys (this was recommended as of of my favorite vlogger's favorite book of the year [a few years ago]. There were so many perspectives and it felt kinda muddy to me.)

Not For Me (Wasn't the intended audience or did not like)

  • All Fours- Miranda July (I could really go on and on about my dissatisfaction with this book)

  • Love Letters to a Serial Killer - Tasha Coryell (thank god for the ending, because other than that, this book was a sh*t show and the narrator was completely unlikable, though attempting to be likable).

  • The Island of Sea Women - Lisa See (Slow, character-driven, kinda muddy)

DNF (Did Not Finish)

  • I don't think I DNF'd anything!! Wild!!

Final Reflection:

I spent majority of the year at 4-6 books ahead of schedule. Returing to work in August really put me behind, and now I'm scrambing. Doing my best, and hoping to make it to 111 by the end of the year. YES WE CAN!!!

If you have any reccos, let me know!
